Release Menosis Miller Jr. from Mental Hospital to Continue Outpatient Treatment

The Issue

On February 14, 2023, my son, Menosis Miller Jr., was taken from court and sent to a mental hospital in Nevada. The judge declared him incompetent due to an incident where he walked into our neighbor's backyard, leading to criminal charges. This is his first encounter with the law; he has no prior criminal history.

Menosis is not a threat to society; he is merely a high school student who was in his final year when this unfortunate event occurred. He has been held for longer than the typical sentence for such an offense would warrant.

According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), over half of all prisoners have mental health issues and many do not receive the treatment they need while incarcerated. Instead of receiving proper care and rehabilitation, they are often subjected to conditions that exacerbate their illness.

Menosis should be at home continuing his education and receiving outpatient mental health treatment - a proven effective method according NAMI's findings on community-based treatments for individuals with severe mental illnesses.

We believe that justice will be better served if Menosis Miller Jr. is released from the hospital and allowed to continue outpatient mental health treatment at home where he can also complete his high school education.

Please sign this petition urging authorities in Nevada to reconsider their decision and allow Menosis Miller Jr., a young man with no prior criminal history who poses no threat, return home for outpatient care rather than being held unnecessarily in a mental hospital.
