I'm a lifelong Final Fantasy fan and a passionate collector of physical video games and I'm sure I'm not the only one. To me there is something truly special about owning and even holding a physical copy of a game you care about (I'm looking at you my beloved 4-disc copy of "Final Fantasy IX" on PS1) 

As we near the final part of the "Final Fantasy VII Remake" trilogy with Revelation coming out early next year, we were met with the recent and unfortunate news that this entry will in fact NOT be complete on the disc, meaning a mandatory internet download will be required.  We can only speculate as to why this is but regardless it's very disappointing news, especially in the wake of Sony killing discs by 2028.  The news is even more baffling when you consider the previous games "Remake" & "Rebirth" shipped with data discs and Square Enix proudly stated that fact in their marketing!

"Final Fantasy VII" was the first in the series to release on disc back in 1997 and next year 2027 marks 30 years since that release!  Square Enix has the opportunity here to close this chapter of gaming history in the most beautiful and poetic way possible by releasing "Final Fantasy Revelation" complete on disc same as they did with the original FFVII 30 years ago on PS1.  

Please Square Enix, listen to your fans of 40+ years and reconsider releasing "Final Fantasy VII Revelation" complete on disc for PS5 and Xbox consoles.  This is much more than just nostalgia as we move to a fully digital world in the gaming landscape, so it's more important than ever to focus on preservation of the games we will cherish for years to come.
