Release Dr. Aafia Siddiqui Now
Release Dr. Aafia Siddiqui Now
The Issue
Aafia Siddiqui has been imprisoned under harsh conditions for many years. Her story starts innocently, with a brilliant neuroscientist who was dedicated to her work and her family, but her life took a tragic turn in 2003 when she was reportedly abducted with her three young children while visiting her hometown Karachi, Pakistan. Her whereabouts remained unknown for five years until she was found in Afghanistan under suspicious circumstances and was subsequently convicted on highly suspect evidence in a U.S. court for attempted murder of U.S. citizens in Afghanistan.
This innocent woman has been taken away from her homeland, serving an 86-year sentence, under grim conditions in U.S. prison. Reportedly, she is not in good health. She has been denied the due process of law and that breaches international legal norms and principles of justice.
Dr. Siddiqui's detainment, prosecution, and subsequent treatment have prompted criticism and drawn issues in relation to human rights violation, gender-based violence, and global injustice.
We assert for release of Dr. Aafia Siddiqui. It’s high time for justice to be served, for her freedom to be regained, and for her to be allowed to return to her loved ones in Pakistan. Her story voices the silent cries of countless innocent souls who suffer at the hands of ignorance and blind prejudice.
Let's take a stand against this grave injustice. Join us in calling for Dr. Aafia Siddiqui's immediate release and her safe return to Pakistan. Please sign this petition. Your signature is a step toward bringing Aafia home.
