The Issue

Dear Colossal Order and Paradox Interactive:

We need your help.

Cities: Skylines II was announced on March 6 as a sequel to Cities: Skylines that will be released in the fall of 2023. The game is expected to be compatible with Windows PCs, Xbox Series X and S consoles, and PlayStation 5, which are all compatible with the original game.

While the original Cities: Skylines was released for Windows and Macintosh computers in 2015 and later expanded to other platforms, the game only supports Intel Macintosh computers in a limited fashion and is able to run on Apple silicon computers via Rosetta 2. However, in the second half of 2023, the Macintosh transition to Apple silicon is expected to be completed, and the support for Rosetta 2 is expected to be dropped within 2-3 years of the end of the transition.

With Cities: Skylines II being released later this year for Windows, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S consoles, players who currently play Cities: Skylines on Mac computers would have to either switch to Windows or consoles, use virtualization software, or use cloud gaming services. This decision will impact players who currently play on the Mac, and the game has a small but dedicated amount of users who follow and play the game every single day like me.

Because of the potential ramifications that could be caused by the lack of Apple Silicon Macintosh support for Cities: Skylines II, we are proposing a petition to the developers at Colossal Order and Paradox Interactive to release a native port of Cities: Skylines II for Macintosh computers that use Apple silicon processors. This port should be developed by a third company like Aspyr (which recently ported SimCity 4 and RCT3 to Apple silicon) or Tantalus Media (which ported remastered console versions of Cities: Skylines to PS5).

Thank you.
