Release Carlos A Calix from Newark Detention Center

The Issue

My brother, Carlos A Calix, is a loving husband, father, and brother who has been unjustly detained at the Newark Detention Center. Carlos came to this country when he was only four years old, and due to circumstances completely beyond his control, a deportation order was placed against him when he was just a child. Misunderstandings and administrative oversights have kept this deportation order hanging over his head, and now, despite his efforts to rectify his status and live a law-abiding life, he finds himself in detention away from his family.

Carlos is the devoted father of a two-year-old son, a stepfather to two children who adore him, and a dedicated husband to his U.S. citizen wife. Since discovering the deportation order, Carlos has sought to do things the right way by applying for DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) and has worked hard to be a positive, contributing member of his community. He is not a criminal, yet he is being treated as such, a situation neither fair nor just.

The emotional toll on Carlos’s family is immeasurable. His children need their father, and his wife needs her husband. The family unit is being torn apart due to a technicality from decades ago, and it’s heartbreaking to witness the pain this is causing.

We are calling on immigration officials and local authorities in New Brunswick, NJ, to review Carlos’s case with fairness and empathy. This is an urgent plea for his release, allowing him to reunite with his family while working out his legal status.
