Pennsylvania lawmakers are considering a bill that would require two license plates on every vehicle—front and back.

But for millions of drivers, this proposal is unnecessary, expensive, and intrusive.

Over 20 states function just fine with one plate. This move would mean higher costs for drivers, more government printing, and more chances for cameras to track and ticket people—without making our roads significantly safer.

Front plates can damage certain vehicles, reduce fuel efficiency, and add costs for car owners, dealerships, and collectors. There’s little evidence they meaningfully reduce crashes—but plenty of evidence they increase surveillance and revenue from tolls and citations.

We’re calling on the Pennsylvania General Assembly to reject this bill and leave the current one-plate system in place.

Let’s focus on proven safety solutions—not policies that burden drivers, waste money, and expand unnecessary monitoring of the public.
