Reject the R300 Extension in Cape Town Due to Environmental and Community Concerns
The Issue
I am a resident of Sonstraal Heights in Cape Town. Our tight-knit community is set to be disrupted by the proposed extension of the R300 highway. This development will pass just meters from our home, threatening the lives we have built here.
The proposed R300 expansion will have serious consequences for our community. The invasion of our peaceful landscape will not just bring noise and air pollution, but will likely lead to an increase in crime. Moreover, the extension is likely to facilitate the construction of more commercial properties which could disrupt our community and potentially encourage further urban sprawl. Our homes, the places where we raise our families and make our lives will suffer devastatingly in terms of property value.
We are equally concerned about the broader implications of the R300 extension. It raises significant environmental concerns, such as damage to the local flora and fauna, and increased vehicular pollution. It will additionally affect local businesses, transportation routes, and the overall quality of life for residents in our region.
This petition is not about halting progress, but about ensuring that progress is beneficial to everyone involved. We therefore call on the relevant governmental authorities to review this proposal with due diligence. We firmly believe that our community, and indeed communities across the Cape Town region, deserve better. We urge you to listen to your constituents, to thoroughly understand the effects such a development could have on us both individually and as a collective.
Please stand with us to reject the R300 extension. Don’t let our homes and our environment suffer due to poorly planned development. Sign this petition. Let's make certain that our voices are heard. Stand up for Durbanville and the other affected areas. Stand up for Cape Town. Stand up for sustainable and community-centred urban planning.
🚨 R300 EXTENSION – WHAT IT MEANS FOR YOU! 🚨
The government is planning to extend the R300 highway near our neighborhood. While infrastructure is important, this project will drastically impact our community.
⚠️ HOW THIS AFFECTS YOU:
❌ More Noise & Air Pollution – Expect loud traffic 24/7 and increased vehicle emissions.
❌ Lower Property Values – Homes near major highways tend to lose value.
❌ Higher Crime Risks – Easy road access can lead to more criminal activity.
❌ Damage to Nature & Green Spaces – The area’s environment will suffer.
WHAT CAN YOU DO?
