Reject the Proposed 21-Story Building at 100-12 Queens Boulevard
The Issue
I am deeply concerned about the proposed development of a 21-story building at 100-12 Queens Boulevard. This project threatens the very fabric of our community and stands to displace several small businesses that have been serving our neighborhood faithfully for years. One of these is the last 24-hour market in the area, severely inconveniencing those who work late hours and rely on this market's accessibility.
Our neighborhood faces significant challenges already, such as a shortage of parking spaces and overcrowded schools. Adding a massive building into this mix will only exacerbate these issues, making daily life increasingly difficult for residents. The proposed building will also affect the CVS Pharmacy, and its closure would leave our area without accessible pharmacy options. This is a serious concern, especially for individuals who require medications and healthcare products regularly, placing a larger burden on our neighborhoods' elderly by forcing them to deal with medication pick-up changes.
Moreover, the introduction of such a large, towering structure contradicts the nature of our city neighborhood. It threatens the walkability and accessibility that define our urban environment, moving us away from city-provided convenience to a burdensome journey for basic goods. Not to mention, the proposed building would become an eyesore, further altering the character and charm of our neighborhood.
It's crucial that this proposed plan be reconsidered. I urge city planners and stakeholders to look at sustainable, community-friendly alternatives that support local businesses and maintain our neighborhood's integrity.
