The Issue

We, the undersigned residents and concerned citizens, oppose the proposed landfill on the historic Vogelman property ( 4115 Clapp Mill Rd.) in Alamance County, North Carolina, formerly owned by George Vogelmann (Fogleman) of Germany. This land is not just another empty tract on a map. It is part of a documented family homestead with deep roots in local and North Carolina history. Building a landfill here would permanently damage a site that carries generational, historical, and environmental value for this community. We believe Alamance County should protect historic family properties, not convert them into dumps. There are better, less sensitive locations for waste facilities than land tied to long‑standing local families and the stories of how this county was built. By signing this petition, we respectfully request that county officials and any involved agencies:

1. Reject any current or future proposals to place a landfill on the former George Vogelman property.

2. Recognize and formally document the historic and cultural significance of this land as part of Alamance County’s heritage.

3. Pursue alternative locations for waste facilities that do not disturb long‑standing family homesteads, historic sites, or sensitive environmental areas.

We ask our leaders to choose preservation over short‑term convenience and to protect the Vogelman property for future generations.”
