The new Transgender Persons Amendment bill seeks to reject rights that have taken decades of struggle to establish. If this bill passes, it will affect the lives of millions of trans people in India, as well as prove to be a defeat to the global trans rights movement. 

The Nalsa Judgement of 2014 provided trans persons in India with legal protection and the right to self-identify, without surgery or medical certification. The Transgender Persons Amendment Bill takes away these rights by removing any measures of self-identification. Thus, it excludes genderqueer individuals, trans men and women and any other non-biological gender identity. 

We will not accept these changes. Our voices will remain strong. Reject the Transgender Persons Amendment Bill 2026.
