Reject the Greater Idaho Movement and Uphold Oregon

The Issue

As an Oregonian living on the eastern side of our beautiful state, I am taken aback by the so-called Greater Idaho Movement. The audacity of a group to attempt to change the very boundaries and essence of our state is both surprising and offensive. This is more than a matter of territorial integrity; it's about respect and consideration for the diverse thoughts and cultures that make up Oregon.

Advocates of this movement, looking to redraw the borders of our state in favour of Idaho, are few but vocal. They argue that their political and social values align more closely with those of Idaho than our own Oregon. If such is the case, the paths are open: you can move and find a place that better fits your personal inclination.

Recognize, however, that your dream of Greater Idaho encroaches on hundreds of thousands of Oregonians' home, heart, and history. We love Oregon for all its quirks and peculiarities, for its unique character that attracts a harmonious blend of both red and blue ideals.

Greater Idaho Movement isn't about better representation or a fairer system; it's a desire for a simpler, multi-phobic, monochrome world. A world shrunk into singular thinking, eliminating the possibility of coexistence and variety; the very essence of America .

The lovely folks of Oregon beg to differ. We cherish our plurality and find strength in our difference. We have been given this land not just to live, but to nurture, grow, and pass on to future generations. If you feel neglected, it isn't because of us or the state—it's because you've chosen only to listen to those who sound like yourself, rejecting the polyphonic symphony of our diverse state.

Let us not carve out a chunk of our state for the sake of a handful of disgruntled minds. Stand up for the boundaries of our beloved Oregon, and the diversity it houses within. Let's say no to the Greater Idaho Movement. Stand with us, sign the petition and affirm that Oregon is, and will forever be, diverse and united.
