The Issue

Throughout our nation's history, countless individuals have sacrificed their lives to secure and protect the freedoms that we, as Americans, hold dear. Our founding fathers envisaged a land where personal liberty and privacy were paramount. It is in their spirit that we must stand against the introduction of digital identification, a measure that threatens to encroach upon our freedoms and undermine the rights for which so many have fought and died.

Digital IDs present a clear danger to privacy. They have the potential to turn our personal information into a state-controlled asset, removing an individual's autonomy over their own identity. Personal data, once in the hands of a centralized authority, can be subjected to theft, misuse, or unwarranted surveillance. According to a 2020 study by Privacy International, digital ID systems in other countries have shown significant vulnerabilities where identities of millions were compromised.

The United States, a bastion of freedom, should not partake in measures that may lead to such a dystopian reality where the state holds unprecedented control over an individual's life. Implementing a digital ID system could exclude those without access to technology, deepen socio-economic divisions, and affect marginalized communities disproportionately.

Instead, we must prioritize solutions that strengthen individual privacy and offer protection without infringing upon our inherent rights. Opting for voluntary and decentralized systems ensures that control remains in the hands of the individual, aligning with the democratic values our nation was built upon.

Join us in urging our lawmakers to reject digital IDs as a derogation of the liberties enshrined in the Constitution. Let us protect the freedom and privacy that form the cornerstone of our identity as American citizens. Sign this petition to make your voice heard and preserve the freedoms fought for by generations of Americans. Sign today to safeguard our liberty and protect our future.

To the Honorable Members of the United States Congress,

We, the undersigned citizens of the United States of America, petition Congress to reject any proposal, legislation, or federal initiative that would establish, mandate, or enforce the use of a national digital identification system for American citizens.

Our Concerns:

1. Violation of Constitutional Rights

The implementation of a national digital ID would create unprecedented opportunities for government overreach and surveillance. Such systems threaten the rights to privacy, free association, and free expression as guaranteed under the Constitution.

Our Founding Fathers warned against centralized control that could erode individual liberty. A mandatory digital ID moves directly in that direction.

2. Threats to Privacy and Security

Centralized digital identity systems create a single point of failure. If hacked, breached, or misused, the personal and financial data of millions of Americans could be exploited.

History has shown that once such systems are created, they are expanded and repurposed beyond their original intent.

3. Risk of Financial and Social Control

A digital ID linked to financial, health, or social systems could be used to restrict access to essential services or to coerce compliance with government or corporate mandates.

The American people must never be placed in a position where access to commerce, travel, or healthcare is dependent upon government-issued digital permission.

4. Existing Protections Already Suffice

We already have secure methods of identification through passports, driver’s licenses, and Social Security numbers. Adding a new federalized digital ID is redundant, costly, and dangerous.

Our Demand:

We respectfully urge Congress to:

Oppose any legislation that seeks to create or mandate a federal digital ID system.

Protect and uphold the constitutional rights of Americans to privacy, freedom of movement, and economic liberty.

Ensure that no American is ever required to present a digital ID to access public or private goods, services, or freedoms.

Conclusion

The strength of the United States lies in its protection of individual liberty against government overreach. A national digital ID would erode that liberty and fundamentally change the relationship between the people and their government. We urge you to stand with the American people and protect our freedoms by rejecting any form of federal digital identification system.

Respectfully submitted,

The Undersigned Citizens of the United States
