REJECT 5 storey Development in the ALBERT PARK Village

REJECT 5 storey Development in the ALBERT PARK Village
The issue
You may be aware of a permit application for a multi storey building spanning 3 properties at 146,148 and150 Bridport St Albert Park* in the heart of the Albert Park Village. The application was publicly advertised in January 2023 and proposed SIX (6) storeys and six (6) apartments.
219 Objections were lodged to the original plans and City of Port Phillip Planning advised it would NOT approve those plans.
The Developer referred the matter to VCAT for decision. The VCAT hearing is due to commence on 8 November .
On 15 September 2023, the Developer circulated amended plans (Amended Plans) to construct a FIVE (5) storey building with NINE (9) apartments and 2 level hospitality and 2 levels of underground garage (Proposal).
The Amended Plans have not been publicly advertised. **
On Friday 20th October Port Phillip Planning advised that they are now supportive of the Proposal and have referred this matter for decision to the Port Phillip Council PLANNING Meeting to be held THURSDAY 26 OCTOBER at St Kilda Town Hall @6:30 pm.
We ask Council to REJECT the Proposal and to defend that position at VCAT at the forthcoming hearing due to commence on 8 November 2023.
The Proposal is 5 levels and to give you some idea of the scale, it is as high as the gutter line of the Biltmore in Bevan St- see the indicative arrow in the attached image. Simply put, we say it is too big and bulky for this sensitive site.
It will become a “new” landmark being the second highest building in the area, forever changing the symmetry of our low-rise Albert Park Village which has been generally intact for over a century.
Our petition respectfully requests …
Port Phillip Council to REJECT the 5 level apartment building adjacent to the Biltmore in Bridport St Albert Park.
Please retain and respect our heritage “Village” feel and limit developments in our Village to a reasonable height.
Please do not “open the flood gates” for 5 storey developments in Bridport St Albert Park.

** If you wish to obtain a copy of the Proposal please contact the Council mailto:planhelp@portphillip.vic.gov.au
