The Issue

Recording artist Teena Marie left behind an extraordinary musical legacy—one that continues to touch hearts across generations. Her artistry, soul, and innovation remain timeless, yet much of her catalog is not currently available in the formats many listeners cherish most: vinyl and streaming platforms.

Today, we respectfully petition her daughter, Alia Rose, to consider re-releasing Teena Marie’s albums on vinyl. As vinyl has experienced a powerful resurgence, demand has grown worldwide among collectors, audiophiles, and new listeners who value the warmth, depth, and authenticity that only vinyl records can provide.

We understand that some of Teena Marie’s albums can currently be found through resale platforms such as eBay. However, these listings are often limited, expensive, and inaccessible to many fans. More importantly, resale markets do not allow her music to be rediscovered, promoted, or experienced by new listeners in the way that official reissues placed in record stores can.

Many people have yet to discover Teena Marie’s music. Making her discography widely available on vinyl—through brick-and-mortar shops and official retail channels—would introduce her brilliance to a new generation while allowing longtime fans to reconnect with her work in its fullest form. Re-releasing albums such as Passion Play, La Doña, Sapphire, Congo Square, Beautiful, and the rest of her catalog, and placing them in record stores around the globe, would ensure her music continues to live, breathe, and inspire.

In addition, we respectfully ask that Teena Marie’s independent album Passion Play be made available on major streaming platforms. As one of her most personal and artistically free works, Passion Play represents an essential chapter of her legacy. Making it accessible via streaming would allow fans worldwide—especially younger listeners—to experience this important album for the first time.

While CDs have seen renewed interest, they simply do not compare to the sound, experience, and cultural significance of vinyl. Teena Marie’s music deserves to be heard as richly and powerfully as it was created, while also being accessible in modern listening spaces where new audiences discover music today.

It is our understanding that the last known owner of Teena Marie’s music catalog was Schubert Music Publishing. If this information is accurate—or if the catalog has since changed hands—we respectfully ask for any guidance, clarification, or assistance that could help make these vinyl reissues and streaming availability possible. Whether through licensing insight, estate direction, or industry support, any help would mean the world to her fans.

Her legacy should never be forgotten. By reintroducing her albums on vinyl, returning them to record stores, and making Passion Play available for streaming, we honor her artistry, preserve her impact, and ensure her voice continues to reach hearts for decades to come.

With respect and gratitude,

we ask that this petition reach Alia Rose and any relevant rights holders, and that they consider helping bring Teena Marie’s music back to vinyl—and back into stores—for the world to experience.
