Reintroduce the Coercive Control Bill to Better Protect Domestic Violence Victims

The Issue

As a survivor of domestic violence, I found it devastatingly difficult to halt the cycle of abuse even after having the courage to walk away from my abuser. The Coercive Control Bill, once introduced but now missing from our legislation, had the potential to empower those trapped in verbally and psychologically abusive relationships to seek justice. Coercive control, a form of psychological and emotional abuse, often escalates into physical violence. According to studies, one in four women and one in seven men experience severe physical violence from an intimate partner in their lifetime (U.S. CDC). Yet, the justice system often fails victims by overlooking the crippling power of coercive control. By reintroducing the Coercive Control Bill, we can ensure that those enduring this insidious form of abuse have the legal support they desperately need. Sign this petition to urge the legislators to reintroduce the Coercive Control Bill and ensure justice for all victims of domestic violence.
