Reinstate weekly black bin collections in Sandwell
The Issue
Since the recent shift to fortnightly general waste collections in Sandwell, our community has been facing a significant challenge. Many residents, myself included, have experienced the negative consequences of having to store household rubbish for up to two full weeks. Overflowing bins, unpleasant odours, and even the appearance of maggots have become part of our daily lives. Some of us have no choice but to store excess rubbish around our homes. We never asked to live in this mess, and as proud residents of Sandwell, we deserve better.
We understand that the council has probably implemented these changes to save costs, but such savings cannot come at the expense of our environment and our health. Overflowing bins not only spoil the aesthetics of our communities but also pose serious health risks by attracting pests and increasing the risk of disease.
Moreover, Sandwell is a community that thrives on the well-being and collaboration of its residents. It's disheartening to see our efforts at maintaining a clean and hygienic neighbourhood ruined by this decision. What's at stake is not just our comfort, but our sense of community pride and safety.
This change disproportionately affects larger households and those who are less able to make regular trips to waste disposal facilities. Let's not overlook the elderly, disabled, and those without transportation who find it difficult to manage these needless barriers.
Reinstating weekly collections would alleviate these issues and restore our community's quality of life. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, responsible waste management isn't just about collection, it's about ensuring public health and enhancing community wellbeing.
Therefore, we urge Sandwell Council to reconsider their decision and reinstate weekly black bin collections. Let us work together to make our neighbourhood a cleaner, healthier, and happier place to live.
Please join our cause and sign this petition to bring back the weekly collections we desperately need.
