Reinstate Uniform Policy at Cass Technical High School

Reinstate Uniform Policy at Cass Technical High School
The Issue
As a student at Cass Technical High School in Detroit, I've noticed an issue that is both personal and relevant to the well-being of our student body: our current dress code disproportionately targets girls. It's an uncomfortable and unfair situation, which can easily be resolved by reinstating our uniform policy. Uniforms have been shown in many studies to enhance a sense of community, reduce distractions, and even improve grades.
At the heart of this issue is equality. The current dress code seems to disproportionately affect female students, creating an environment where what we wear becomes more important than what we learn. This ongoing discussion takes focus away from education, which should be our primary concern in school.
Uniforms, while they might seem restrictive to some, actually foster an environment of fairness and equality. They shift the focus from how students look to what they're learning. According to research conducted by The National Education Association, implementing a uniform policy can decrease violence and theft, instill discipline, and help school officials recognize nonstudents who come onto the school grounds.
By reinstating our uniform policy, we can achieve a more balanced, focused, and efficient educational environment. This policy change is not just about comfort; it's about fostering a learning-centered environment that treats all students equally.
Therefore, we call upon the administration of Cass Technical High School to reinstate the uniform policy. Our education and well-being should be the primary focus, and a fair, uniform dress policy will help to ensure this. Please, sign our petition and support the right to a focused, equal, and just learning environment.
