To: Bromsgrove District Council / Worcestershire County Council (Highways Department)
Subject: We, the undersigned residents and road users of the Oakalls and Parklands estates, formally request that the Council review and reverse the current priority traffic system on Regents Park Road and reinstate the original two‑way traffic layout.

Reason for the Petition;

The introduction of the priority lane has created several unintended and avoidable issues that are negatively affecting residents and drivers. These include:

Increased congestion, particularly during school runs, peak commuting hours, and weekends. Traffic coming onto the estate will create conjestion leading back onto the roundabout and up the A38.

Driver confusion and hesitation, leading to unnecessary stand‑offs and delays. The visability on approach to the Priority lane from the Oakalls island is very poor, you cant see what is coming down the road, A hedge has been trimmed back slightly but this will surely grow back and create even worse visabilty.

Reduced road safety, as vehicles often accelerate to “beat” the priority section or brake suddenly when unsure who has right of way.

Noise and pollution increases, caused by idling vehicles waiting for the priority section to clear.

No demonstrated improvement in traffic flow or safety compared to the previous two‑way layout. The direction in which the priority lane is facing is for traffic coming from the Bromsgrove Highway (A448), Finstall. It will not discourage drivers from using the Oakalls as a rat run.

What Traffic models was the decision based on?

Community Impact;

Residents report that the priority system has made the road less safe and less efficient than before. The previous two‑way arrangement functioned smoothly for many years without accident or the issues now being experienced daily.

Reinstating two‑way lanes would restore predictable, balanced flow and reduce the unnecessary bottleneck created by the priority system.

Our Request

We respectfully ask the Council to:

Remove the priority lane system on Regents Park Road, and

Reinstate the previous two‑way traffic layout

A central pedestrian refuge with railings, a humped zebra crossing and right turn lanes. The zebra crossings would aid right turning into Abbey Close and Green Park Road as drivers would slow down for the bumps and also pedestrians. Central markings would be red anti skid to contrast and better visualise a road narrowing whilst also allowing vehicles to safely pass stopped vehicles for the postbox.

Conclusion:

This petition reflects a strong and growing concern among local residents. We believe that reinstating the two‑way system will improve safety, reduce congestion, and restore a fair and functional traffic flow for everyone who uses Regents Park Road.
