We have always been entitled to and guaranteed tips for our job position. When I was hired, I was explicitly informed that we would receive tips as part of our income. However, with the introduction of a union coming soon to the workplace, my stand lead position is now being excluded from the tip pool. This abrupt change means we are no longer entitled to our share of the tips, which is unfair and detrimental to our livelihood. Those in lower positions who remain part of the tip pool will potentially earn more than those of us in higher positions, like stand leads, which feels unjust.

The decision to exclude stand leads from the tip pool came without warning and disregards the promises made to us upon our hiring. Tips have been a crucial part of our compensation and losing them significantly impacts our financial stability. We are hard-working individuals committed to our roles, and this sudden change undermines our contributions and efforts.

There should be consequences for the illegal and unlawful discussions of the union at work. Work email was used to discuss union matters and to solicit votes for ratifying the union. Union representatives actively pushed employees to vote in favor of and agree to the union contract terms. These actions took place without our stand leads receiving any information about the potential effects on us or details regarding upcoming changes. Without this knowledge, we had no way to prepare or protect the tips and rights we were guaranteed upon hiring.
We were explicitly told not to discuss the union, while employees in other positions were freely discussing it openly and via work email.

At the very least, a reasonable pay raise is warranted to compensate for the reduction in income caused by the loss of tips. It is only fair that our compensation reflects the value and responsibility of our position as stand leads. This adjustment will ensure that we can continue to support ourselves and our families without undue financial stress. 

A solution to this would be to either reinstate the stand lead positions back into the tip pool and/or provide a fair pay raise. Other companies that have faced similar situations have successfully reinstated tip pools for affected employees or offered pay raises to bridge the gap. It is a viable and fair solution that acknowledges the importance of our roles and the promises made to us.
