We find ourselves in a unfortunate scenario where an Olympian has been barred from participating in the forthcoming Olympic Games on the basis of an accusation related to an incident that took place four years ago, which was revealed just a week prior to the Olympics. It is worth noting that everyone, including our athletes, should have the right to a fair hearing and chance to defend themselves adequately before such drastic life-altering decisions occur. By acting hastily and without following due process, we are not only harming an individual's career but also potentially affecting their mental and emotional wellbeing.

The International Olympic Committee itself claims, in its Fundamental Principles of Olympism, that all athletes have the right to practice sport without discrimination and in a spirit that promotes friendship, solidarity, and fair play. With this in mind, it's clear that due process should be followed in all cases, regardless of the timing, to ensure fairness.

We, therefore, call on the International Olympic Committee to reconsider its decision and reinstate this athlete, thus upholding the principles of justice and fairness that sports are supposed to represent. It is crucial for our trust in the spirit of the games, and necessary for maintaining sport as an honest and fair competition.
