The Issue

There are about 13,836 residents in the city of North Battleford, Saskatchewan. This petition is raised as a call to action against the recent transit budget cuts.

The local city council has decided to slash the budget down to $113,325 for the year 2025, a significant decrease from the previous figure of $238,586. Service was also cut from two to one route, changing to operate from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. instead of 8 a.m. until 6 p.m. from Monday to Friday.

These harsh transit budget cuts have resulted in layoffs for 50% of the transit workforce, gravely impacting the daily transportation of countless citizens. This particular decision does not only affect the employees who have lost their positions, but also burdens senior citizens, students, and families who rely heavily on these services for their day-to-day transportation needs.

This decision is perceived as a breach of trust, especially as the Battleford Transit System workers have recently voted to become part of the Amalgamated Transit Union (ATU) Local 615.

The transit system in our city is not just about transport. It's a lifeline for people who rely on public transportation for work, groceries, and more. We urgently call for action to reinstate the previously allocated transit budget, which would ensure a sustainable and functional transit system for our city. Your support through a signature can make a powerful difference.

Let's voice our support for better public transportation in North Battleford. Please, sign this petition.
