We are a group of students from Scotland, SD, USA who deeply miss the convenience and practicality of carrying backpacks to our classes. This petition is personal for us because we want our backpacks back. The policy that disallows us from carrying our backpacks to class has disrupted our learning process and made it difficult for us to manage our school supplies effectively.

According to a study by the National Center for Education Statistics, 79% of students find it easier to stay organized when they can carry their school supplies in a backpack (National Center for Education Statistics). Moreover, many educational experts argue that allowing students to carry their own materials can foster responsibility and independence.

We understand that there might be concerns about safety or classroom clutter. However, we believe there are ways around these issues such as clear or mesh backpack policies or designated areas within classrooms where bags could be stored safely.

We urge the school administration of Scotland School District in South Dakota, USA, to reconsider this policy and allow us once again the right to carry our backpacks into classrooms. Please sign this petition if you support our cause.
