On May 15, 2024, the Board of Education for Frederick County Public Schools voted to cut this essential program. The Remote Virtual Program (RVP) has been a lifeline for many students who are medically fragile, suffer from severe social anxiety, autism, mental health disorders, allergies, sensory processing disorders, have been bullied, thrive under different learning modalities, etc. The vast majority of its expenses are salaries, it helps reduce overcrowding, and the cost per student is a fraction of in-person.

These children are thriving in an environment that caters to their unique needs. Eliminating RVP will force them back into situations where they struggle academically and emotionally. It will also burden the in-person model even more.
