Reinstate the Queensland Vehicle Registration Sticker System

The Issue

Our personal experience with the current vehicle registration process has unveiled a system demanding urgent rectification. My husband recently fell victim to driving an unregistered car, despite no reminders received from QLD Transport via mail or email. This resulted in significant fines, the removal of plates, and the need for a Road Worthy Certificate (RWC) to re-register the car, imposing an unexpected financial burden.

This isn't just our story; we’re part of a much larger issue. The current system, implemented by the QLD Government as part of a push into digital notifications, brings significant repercussions when traditional delivery methods fail. The abundant cases of individuals unknowingly driving unregistered vehicles and subsequently accumulating substantial fines seem less like system gaps and more akin to a devious revenue raising scheme.

Once we had registration stickers, a simple and successful system adopted for many years. It was understood that the removal of these stickers would be replaced with effective reminders. This has proven untrue. The current system's expectations are unrealistic, placing an undue burden on residents constantly tasked with monitoring their vehicle's registration status amid daily life’s hustle and bustle.

To resolve this issue, we call upon the QLD Government to review the current system. We advocate reinstating the vehicle registration sticker system or implementing a more reliable way of ensuring that every vehicle owner receives prompt, adequate, and actionable registration reminders.

Help us restore a system that ensures clear communication and protects consumers from egregious fines. Your signature can be the catalyst for change and bring an end to this administrative nightmare. Please sign this petition.
