The Issue

Growing up in the area, the playground on Loshon Road was more than just a stretch of land; it was a cherished gathering place where we, as children, could play and thrive in a safe and inclusive environment. It was a vibrant hub that facilitated social interactions among residents of all ages, promoting physical, mental, and social growth. Today, we stand together as a community, seeking the reinstatement of this essential space that has been unlawfully seized and transformed into derelict land.

A few years ago, one of the residents on Loshon Road,  has taken it upon themselves to confiscate the piece of state-owned land on Loshon Road that was formerly our beloved playground. This unauthorized action strips the community of a critical resource, replacing joyful laughter with the rustle of overgrown bushes and the unsettling presence of rats, snakes, and mosquitoes. This degradation presents not just an eyesore, but  a deplorable  health and safety hazard, especially for the children and elderly who once found solace and companionship in this playground.

We implore the swift intervention of The Commissioner of State Lands, under the Ministry of Agriculture, Land and Fisheries, and the CEO of the Diego Martin Regional Corporation,  to address this unlawful occupancy and restore the playground to its rightful purpose. The community of Loshon Road and its environs deserves access to this space once again to rejuvenate our bonds and enhance the quality of life for all residents.

Playgrounds play a vital role in enhancing community welfare, offering children a refuge for active play and learning, and providing adults and seniors with a venue to walk and exercise safely as well as to help strengthen bonds through shared activities and gatherings. We are committed to working cooperatively with community stakeholders and authorities to ensure proper maintenance and oversight once the playground is reinstated.

Please sign this petition to support the reinstatement of the public playground on Loshon Road, helping us creat a harmonious green space and preserve the heart and soul of our community for generations to come. Join us in making our voices heard and restoring a crucial part of our heritage. Your signature is a step toward revitalizing our community's spirit.
