Reinstate the previous 508 Bus Route for Farsley's Access to Vital Amenities

Reinstate the previous 508 Bus Route for Farsley's Access to Vital Amenities
The Issue
My life, like many in our community, has become significantly more challenging since the discontinuation of the 508 bus route through Farsley. Everyday travel decisions are now more difficult as we are left without any decent bus travel options into Leeds centre. This change has not only impacted our access to vital amenities, but also added hundreds of unnecessary car journeys, exacerbating issues related to pollution and traffic congestion in our region. The reopening of this route is a necessity to reconnect our community and for sustainability.
First Bus West Yorkshire decided to remove the Farsley portion of the 508 route which has been an essential part of the community's daily routines. This decision has impacted the elderly, the young, and those without a vehicle. This bus route provided a crucial connection to important amenities like cinemas, gyms, restaurants, medical facilities and schools, affecting especially those who relied on public transportation as their primary means of commuting.
It's not just about inconvenience but also about the zero-carbon emissions target set by both the UK Government and West Yorkshire Combined Authority (which includes Leeds), with the former aiming for zero emissions by 2050 and the latter by 2038. By reducing access to public transport, First Bus is in effect encouraging more people to use cars, contravening the goals of these targets.
The reinstatement of the 508 bus route is not just a move for the convenience of Farsley's residents, but also in alignment with our shared commitment to a more sustainable future. We urge First Bus West Yorkshire to review their decision and restore the 508 bus route through Farsley. Please sign this petition to bring the much-needed change.
