In 2017/18 a new crossing was proposed that would connect the areas of Rotherhithe to Canary Wharf in London. This bridge would have been a pedestrian and cycle Thames crossing and helped elevate the overcrowding that occurs frequently at Canada Water Tube station. 

Since this time TFL and the Mayor's Office have put this plan on hiatus citing a lack of funds. However, they have continued with proposed plans to create yet another vehicle tunnel which will link North Greenwich to Silvertown which also just so happens to be the new location of the new City Hall/Mayor's Office. 

In an era when we are being asked to cut down our carbon emissions, the construction of a new motor vehicle tunnel and the cancelling of construction of a new pedestrian and cycle crossing seems counterintuitive. This combined with the oversight from TFL of the extreme burden that the planned 10-year redevelopment of Canda Water and its surrounding areas (including Rotherhithe) is going to have on local transportation links, and the easing of said burden that a pedestrian crossing would offer is why we are asking for your support in petitioning them to reinstate the construction of the crossing.
