Reinstate the Open Top Buses in Cornwall

Reinstate the Open Top Buses in Cornwall
The Issue
I have fond memories of traveling on the open top coastal buses in Cornwall, a unique and joyous experience that embodied the spirit of a true Cornish summer. These buses allowed passengers to hop on and off between different destinations while basking in the warmth of the sun, surrounded by the breathtaking views of Cornwall's pristine beaches and dramatic coastline. Unfortunately, the service between Penzance and St Ives, as well as Newquay and Padstow, has been discontinued, leaving a void in both the tourist experience and local transport options.
The open top buses were more than just a mode of transportation; they were a symbol of Cornish tourism that attracted visitors from far and wide. These routes offered unparalleled views and accessibility to various attractions, significantly enhancing the travel experience for tourists and locals alike. The economic benefits of reinstating these buses can be substantial, boosting local businesses and employment opportunities in the region. With the high volume of tourists visiting Cornwall every year, these buses played a crucial role in supporting sustainable tourism and these buses were always packed
In addition to their economic advantages, open top buses provide an environmentally friendly transportation alternative that complements Cornwall's efforts to reduce carbon emissions. It encourages public transport use over personal vehicles, reducing congestion and the carbon footprint of seasonal tourists.
We urge Cornwall Council and local transport operators to consider the revival of these iconic open top bus routes. By doing so, they would not only restore a cherished feature of Cornwall's tourist offerings but also promote sustainable tourism and contribute to the local economy.
Your support in signing this petition is a step towards bringing back a beloved transport option to the Cornish coast. Let’s join together to improve our travel experience and revive the vibrant tradition of open top bus journeys along our beautiful shores.
