The Issue

Pathways is a school with lots of fun clubs. Among these clubs was our beloved fitness club, which was recently cancelled due to funding issues. This decision has not only stripped us of a critical resource needed to maintain our health and wellness but has also disrupted our sense of community.

The fitness club was more than just a place to exercise; it was a hub of connection and encouragement. It enabled us to build friendships and fostered a spirit of inclusivity among people with similar health and fitness goals. Without it, many students are now deprived of free fitness options, which is especially concerning given the rising importance of physical fitness for a healthier lifestyle.

Consider that regular physical activity is proven to reduce the risk of chronic diseases, improve mental health, and increase life expectancy. According to the World Health Organization, insufficient physical activity is one of the leading risk factors for global mortality. Reinstating the fitness club would not only support our physical health but our mental well-being as well.

We understand that funding is a complex issue and that the decision to cancel the club was not made lightly. However, we believe that with community support and potential partnerships with local businesses or health organizations, creative solutions can be found to fund the fitness club. Options such as membership fees, fundraising events, or sponsorships could be explored.

We urge the management of Pathways to reconsider their decision and invite discussions with residents to explore feasible solutions to bring back the fitness club. By signing this petition, you are calling for a commitment to health, community, and well-being. Let us join forces to restore this valued community asset, ensuring that everyone has the opportunity to lead a healthier life.
