Reinstate The Edindex for Edinburgh Families

Reinstate The Edindex for Edinburgh Families
The Issue
We are a small charity dedicated to supporting families in Edinburgh, and we are deeply concerned about the prolonged suspension of The Edindex, a decision made without consultation with local projects like ours. We witness first hand the detrimental impact that unsuitable housing has on families' mental health and well-being.
For over 20 years, many families have been trapped in Private Sector Leases (PSL), Temporary Accommodation, or tirelessly bidding for permanent homes. The suspension of The Edindex strips away the only hope promising a stable future for hundreds of these families. An extended suspension, potentially lasting until 2027, will have catastrophic effects not only on parents but also on individuals' mental well-being across our community.
The lack of communication and transparency from the council leaves us struggling to advise and support our service users effectively. Clients come to us seeking help with benefits, housing, and debt issues, referrals we receive from the North Office council offices. However, without timely updates or transparency on decisions being made by the Councillors, our efforts are severely hindered. This lack of clarity not only affects our ability to assist but also contributes to the stress and anxiety of the families relying on us.
We urge the City of Edinburgh Council to reconsider the suspension of The Edindex and engage in meaningful dialogue with local projects who are dealing with the direct consequences of this decision. Reinstating The Edindex would provide hope, stability, and a pathway to secure housing for the countless families we are committed to helping every day.
Sign this petition to support Edinburgh's families in their quest for safe, stable, and adequate housing.
