Reinstate the Amtrak Pioneer Route from Salt Lake City to Boise

Reinstate the Amtrak Pioneer Route from Salt Lake City to Boise
The Issue
I am a resident deeply affected by the discontinuation of the Amtrak Pioneer route in 1997. This route, which connected Salt Lake City, Utah to Seattle via Ogden, Utah Boise, Idaho and Portland, Oregon was not just a means of transportation but also a vital link between communities.
UTA partnered with officials in Idaho, Utah and Nevada to submit two Corridor ID applications. The Pioneer Corridor (Boise to Salt Lake City) would restore a key segment of Amtrak’s former Pioneer Line between two of the fastest-growing cities in the U.S., located in the two fastest-growing states in the U.S., while serving rural and disadvantaged communities in the intermountain West that currently lack access to an intercity rail network or many other transportation options. The Pioneer Corridor application was submitted by the Idaho Transportation Department (ITD) to Amtrak
The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (ILJA) created the Corridor Identification and Development (Corridor ID) Program to facilitate the development of intercity passenger rail corridors. Unprecedented levels of funding have been provided to the Federal Railroad Administration programs. The Corridor ID Program is a comprehensive intercity passenger rail planning and development program that will help guide intercity passenger rail development throughout the country and create a pipeline of intercity passenger rail projects ready for implementation.
the Pioneer was the last passenger rail route to serve Southern Idaho, and/or Eastern Oregon.
The loss of this service has created significant inconvenience for many residents who relied on it for travel. It has also negatively impacted local economies that benefited from passenger traffic. According to data from the Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS), rail travel is an environmentally friendly option with lower CO2 emissions per passenger mile if cars and airplanes are not options
Reinstating this route would provide an essential service for many communities along its path while promoting sustainable travel options. It would reconnect families, boost local economies and offer scenic travels across some of America's most beautiful landscapes.
We kindly ask Amtrak and relevant transportation authorities to reconsider their decision made over two decades ago and restore this important rail service between Salt Lake City and Seattle Boise,
Please sign this petition if you support reinstating the Amtrak Pioneer route.
