Reinstate SkateWorld in Gresham for Skating Enthusiasts

The Issue

I am a lifelong skater who moved from Pendleton, OR to Gresham with the expectation of continuing my passion with the same joy and fervor. To my disappointment, shortly after my move, both Pendleton and Gresham closed their skating rinks, leaving me and fellow skaters without a community space to celebrate our shared love for skating. For us, Oaks Park does not match our needs for a skating rink. SkateWorld was not only a rink; it was a community gathering space that brought joy to people of all ages. Its absence is felt every day.

Gresham's SkateWorld, like the other skating rinks across the country, used to be a thriving hub of activity where people could gather, engage in healthy physical activity, and bond over their love for skating. The much-loved establishment was home to countless memories. Beyond the personal memories, skate rinks have an economic impact too. A study conducted by the National Association of Skating Operators reveals that nearly 10.25 million Americans visit a skating center each year, indicating a high demand for roller-skating facilities.

However, due to a variety of reasons, these cherished skating rinks are being replaced, leaving countless skaters and local communities bereft. It's time to reclaim our space and bring back SkateWorld in Gresham. We are not just calling for the reinstatement of a local establishment; we are advocating for the resurgence of a thriving community hub that promotes health, happiness, and leisure.

Stand with us and help us bring back SkateWorld to Gresham, OR! Please sign this petition and make your love for skating heard. Stand up for community spaces that give so much yet ask for so little. Together, we can make a difference!
