Reinstate section 33.1 of the criminal code in Canada

The Issue

The Supreme Court of Canada recently changed the Criminal Code of Canada, section 33.1 that states that an accused cannot use extreme intoxication as a defense in violent crimes such as assault and sexual assault. Since this change, offenders can now claim extreme intoxication as a defense. This decision places victims in danger of repeated violence and hinders the efforts to exact justice.

The Supreme Court needs to repeal this decision and reinstate section 33.1 to keep the vulnerable, especially women and children safe.

Citizens of Canada need to voice their disapproval and let the Supreme Court know that we deserve better. We expect better from them.
