Reinstate School Resource Officers in Lynnwood Public Schools

The Issue

We urge the City of Lynnwood and the Edmonds School District to reinstate Lynnwood School Resource Officer (SRO) program in our public schools. Ensuring the safety and well-being of our students, teachers, and staff is of utmost importance, and the presence of SROs is a vital component in achieving that goal.

Why Reinstating SROs Matters:

In 2017, the city commissioned a study on Lynnwood Police and Detention, which recommended the addition of at least one to two School Resource Officers (SROs).

According to the National Association of School Resource Officers (NASRO), their mission is to “provide safe learning environments in our nation’s schools, provide valuable resources to school staff members, foster positive relationships with youth, develop strategies to resolve problems affecting youth, and protect all students so that they can reach their fullest potentials.”

SROs play a critical role in fostering a safe school environment, mentoring students, and building positive relationships between law enforcement and the community.

The presence of SROs can help deter violence, provide immediate response to emergencies, and assist in conflict resolution within our schools.

Restoring SROs is a crucial step in creating a safer environment for our students and community. We urge city and school officials to act now to prioritize the safety and security of our schools.
