Petition updateReinstate Safe School Transport for Sandford Pupils📢 Campaign Update – Council Works & Facebook Page Back 📢

Over the past few days, the Council has been carrying out work on the Sandford–Strathaven path. Grass has been cut back and some patches of tar laid to slightly widen sections. While we welcome any improvements, this falls far short of what is needed to make the route genuinely safe.

⚠️ The path is still narrow in places, forcing children to walk single-file beside a 60mph road.

⚠️ There are no barriers protecting children from traffic.

⚠️ Large stretches remain completely unlit, making winter journeys dangerous.

⚠️ No safe crossings have been introduced.

We are still awaiting a formal response from South Lanarkshire Council following the reassessment of the route. Until then, we cannot be sure what their full intentions are. What is clear is that simply cutting grass and patching tar will not protect children.

This campaign is not about temporary fixes — it’s about long-term safety. The Council must either reinstate safe school transport or make substantial changes that meet their own safety guidance.

✅ Meanwhile, our Facebook page is now back up and running to keep everyone updated. Please join, like, and share, your voice really matters in keeping the pressure on.

🙏 Thank you to everyone continuing to sign, share, and speak out. Every voice matters — and together, we’re showing the Council that this community will not accept unsafe routes for our children.
