Reinstate Protective Tree Easement to Save Century-Old Post Oaks from $17m Garage

Reinstate Protective Tree Easement to Save Century-Old Post Oaks from $17m Garage
The Issue
We must hold ourselves accountable for the future of Fayetteville and the Earth we inhabit. It's time to reaffirm our commitment to the Fayetteville Climate Action Plan and demand that the protective easement for the seven post oaks be fully reinstated and the Fayetteville Public School Board reverses it's decision to destroy FHS's last remaining large green space. Protect our green heritage - sign this petition today!
As the concerned citizens of Make Fayetteville Livable we condemn the recent overturning of the protective easement preserving seven 100-year-old post oaks on Stadium Dr, to build a 17 million dollar parking garage.
This overturning has significant implications not just for our local ecology, but also for the City of Fayetteville’s sustainable development, which promises to make our city more resilient through the Fayetteville Climate Action Plan and commitment to better public transportation.
This isn't about resisting progress—it's about sustainable development. An investment of this magnitude could be redirected to initiatives that foster environmental protection and sustainable transportation.
Additionally, the projected budget for this parking garage is shockingly seven times more than the annual transportation budget for Fayetteville Public Schools.
Our city pledged to protect “significant trees” in perpetuity, and these century-old post oaks certainly qualify. The longevity of these trees is important, and it is our duty to uphold this legacy and strive for a sustainable and climate-friendly city.
