Reinstate Portraits of Sir Winston Churchill and The Duke of Wellington in Original Siting

The Issue

I am a concerned British citizen who deeply respects the historical figures who shaped our nation. As such, my heart sank when I learnt that the portraits of Sir Winston Churchill and The Duke of Wellington were removed from their original sites by Keir Starmer following Labour's election win.

These portraits are not just works of art, they are powerful reminders of our nation’s storied past and the figures who fought for our freedoms. Sir Winston Churchill, known as the Bulldog of Britain, led us through one of our darkest periods as we faced the threat of Nazi Germany during World War II. His unwavering leadership and eloquent speeches inspired millions, promoting courage and resilience in even the bleakest of times.

Similarly, revered as a national hero, The Duke of Wellington is renowned for his victorious role in the Battle of Waterloo, which marked the end of Napoleon's bid for power and brought about peace in Europe after years of conflict.

These portraits serve as reminders of crucial periods in our history where leadership, strategy, and bravery played monumental roles. Preserving such heritage is critical to us as a nation, promoting a sense of continuity and shared history.

The Houses of Parliament, and the portraits within them, are not the property of any incumbent political party or ruling government. They belong to us, the people of the United Kingdom, reminding us of the strides we have taken as a nation and the struggles we have overcome.

Therefore, we call on the Labour Government to reinstate the portraits of Sir Winston Churchill and The Duke of Wellington in their original sitiing, allowing future generations to appreciate their significance in our rich tapestry of history. Please sign this petition to respect and honour our heritage.
