The Issue

Our beloved Coach Thomas Wood, with over 40 years of dedication to the Iroquois Central School District has been forced to resign. This is a heartbreaking reality that affects not only the team he leads with passion but the entire district that has seen thousands of students thrive under his guidance.

For more than four decades, Coach Wood has been more than a mentor. He has been a father figure, a motivator, an example of integrity, and above all, a symbol of what it means to be committed to students’ growth—not just in sports, but in life. His unwavering dedication has impacted countless lives, shaping young men and women into confident, disciplined, and successful individuals.

Coach Wood was forced to resign Monday over an incident that was both unforeseeable and beyond his control. This situation is not within his job description, much less a reflection of his ability to lead. It is unfair and unjust to penalize a man who has given his life to the system and who continues to hold enthusiasm for his role as a coach.

This Human Resources stunt by the District blindsided Coach Wood, who had no warning and no indication he did anything wrong. Members of the administration should be ashamed and embarrassed for such a horrendous way to treat a glorified and decorated Coach and Iroquois member.

In addition to his admirable track record, his innovative training methods, and his genuine care for every student may very well transform lives well beyond the playing field. During his tenure, he has successfully led teams to victory, fostered a sense of camaraderie, and offered countless students a safe haven away from life's challenges.

Based on these merits, it's clear this decision to force Coach Wood to step down undermines the exemplary service he’s provided. We believe the Iroquois track community should rally together to reinstate his position.

The school district needs to reconsider this decision and recognize that one issue beyond his control should not overshadow a lifetime of achievement. His influence on students positively impacts not only their athletic performance but their lives.

We urge the authorities to reassess his situation and consider the tremendous value he offers to generations to come. Let us stand as a community to support and advocate for our coach's rightful place at the helm.

Please sign this petition to demand that the administration do the right thing and reinstate our track coach. It's time to put fairness and dedication above all else.

WE urge everyone who is outraged about this to make your voices heard in the comments. We hope to see you at the Iroquois Central School District board meeting, Wednesday December 10 at 7:00 pm at the middle school. It is OPEN to the public.
