Emerald High’s Track & Field and Cross-Country teams were left in shock when Coach Laura Gan was unexpectedly released from her position. Coach Gan went above and beyond to prepare our athletes for the competitive races we faced throughout the seasons, making a lasting impact on both students and the programs.

Last year, Coach Gan was hired at the last minute to lead Track & Field. Despite the challenges of stepping into the role on short notice, she streamlined the program and created an exceptional experience for the athletes. Since Emerald High was a new school and unable to compete in the league, she worked tirelessly to ensure the team still had meaningful opportunities. Under her leadership, students participated in meets almost every week—traveling not just locally but even as far as McFarland.

Regardless of rain or shine, Coach Gan always showed up—never making excuses about the school’s limited resources, shared equipment with DHS, or the logistical challenges of a new program. She was meticulous in her evaluations, ensuring students had the necessary training, attire, shoes, uniforms, and structured warm-up routines to perform at their best.

The season concluded with a grand banquet, where she recognized every athlete’s dedication and achievements. Her unwavering focus on proper form, injury prevention, and adherence to rules demonstrated her professionalism and commitment to the team. She led with dignity, hard work, and determination, setting a high standard for what a coach should be.

We, the students and parents of Emerald High, firmly believe that reinstating Coach Gan as our Track & Field and Cross-Country Head Coach is essential for the continued success and growth of the program. Her leadership provides the structure, expertise, and passion needed for a smooth and successful season.
