The Issue

For years, the vibrant atmosphere of The Hill at UCLA was invigorated by the presence of dinner food trucks. Despite having other dining alternatives, the unique charm, local aspect, and convenience of these food trucks at dinnertime have made them a beloved choice for thousands of students.

Now, with their removal, we are missing a vital component of our dining experience. The absence of dinner food trucks not only reduces the variety and flexibility in dining options for students but also impacts the community feeling and student life quality on campus. Gathering around these trucks wasn't just about food; it was about building connections in the long lines, unwinding after a long day of classes, and enjoying the vibrant UCLA nightlife right in Sproul & Rieber.

There are those who will argue the existing food truck pricing model is unsustainable. We agree, and we call on UCLA to provide fairer compensation for the food trucks that serve our residential community. The current high-volume-low-margin model simply does not work for many food trucks who are offered a UCLA contract. Let's try to do better.

We propose to UCLA administration to reassess the decision to remove these dinner food trucks and consider the positive impact that improving the compensation model would bring.

Bringing back these dinner food trucks would reinstate a cherished campus activity, offer diverse and convenient dining options, promote local businesses, and restore an important piece of our student community culture.

Join us in urging UCLA to reinstate dinner food trucks on The Hill. Sign this petition to support a vibrant, inclusive, and flexible dining experience for all students.
