As residents of Florida, we have a particular and concerning relationship with hurricanes. In our state, it has always been a common ritual to buy a 'Hurricane Cake' from Publix Supermarkets ahead of an impending storm. These cakes, adorned with weather maps and adorned with playful hurricane decor, would bring us a sense of unity, and humor, in the face of adversity. Regrettably, Publix discontinued these storm-themed sweets, and we believe our luck has turned for the worse since. With the discontinuation, it seems as though we have been getting hit by more and more storms—increasing our preparations and stressing out our beloved community.

This spike in activity has coincided with the lack of our beloved tradition, causing undue stress and removing a source of comfort in our community. We ask Publix Supermarkets to consider our plea. By reintroducing the hurricane cakes to their stores, they will not only be reviving a beloved tradition, but also bringing a sense of unity and comfort to our anxiety-ridden storm seasons.
