With the recent success of the Florida Panthers’ hockey team the hockey community has grown in South Florida. Despite this, Pickleball has replaced many of the local roller hockey rinks which had made it increasingly difficult for the roller hockey community to share their love for the game and have a place to play. Central Park, in Plantation, has become a crucial hub for roller hockey in the area. Recently, the nets have been removed indefinitely from the rinks unless the rink is rented out. This contributes to the roller hockey community being underserved in South Florida, despite the growth of the sport. Hockey is more than just a game to so many of us, and not being able to play results in the loss of more than just a recreational activity. There’s a loss of a tight-knit community. Removing the nets at roller hockey rinks, such as the rink at Central Park in Plantation, limit the ability of the community to engage in hockey.
