Reinstate Happy Hour in Massachusetts

Reinstate Happy Hour in Massachusetts
The Issue
For years, Massachusetts has been one of the few states that outlaws happy hours—a tradition enjoyed by many other parts of the United States as an essential part of the restaurant and bar culture. Banning discounts on drinks not only limits the choices of consumers, but it also inhibits the growth of local businesses. The prohibition was enacted in 1984 as a reaction to high profile drunk driving cases. However, times have changed. Drunk driving rates have fallen dramatically over the years. Notably, in 2018, Massachusetts reported a drunk driving fatality rate well below the national average. Given the low rates of drunk driving, it's time to reconsider happy hour. Today, we request Massachusetts lawmakers to either reinstate happy hour or provide Massachusetts residents with the option to vote to bring it back on the next ballot. Please show your support for consumer choice and local entrepreneurship. Sign the petition.
