The Issue
The recent decision to restrict the number of IVF cycles offered in Greater Manchester to just one per couple is a deeply personal issue for me and countless others who dream of starting a family. I am speaking from my heart when I say how vital IVF is for couples like us, hoping to embrace the joys of parenthood.
The fertility journey is emotionally taxing, and with IVF, the likelihood of success increases significantly with each subsequent cycle. To reduce the offering to a mere single cycle drastically diminishes the chance of success for many and adds an insurmountable pressure on couples during an already stressful process. It is incredibly disheartening to know that despite the NICE guidelines recommending up to 3 cycles, Greater Manchester will not adhere to these recommendations.
We live in a time where the birth rate is declining, and providing adequate access to IVF is essential for addressing this issue. Moreover, the cost of offering 3 IVF cycles as suggested by NICE is less than 0.1% of the NHS overall budget, a small price to pay for the potential of creating life and fulfilling dreams for so many.
It's essential for the trusts within Greater Manchester to review this decision. Previously, some trusts offered 2 cycles and one even offered 3 cycles of IVF. We call upon these trusts to reinstate at least the previous provisions and align their practices with the NICE guidelines.
This isn't just a request; it's a plea for equity in healthcare and support for families. Please, help us bring back hope by signing this petition. Your support can make a profound difference in the lives of many aspiring parents in Greater Manchester.
