Reinstate Food Trucks on the University of Michigan's North Campus

The Issue

I and many other students find ourselves having to walk away from the North Campus for 15 minutes to find food options. Or be stuck waiting in a 15-30 minute line in Pierpont Commons for Panda Express or Poke. Or just skipping eating lunch entirely. This shouldn't have to be the case. Food should be a common and shared experience, and it should encourage socializing. This is likely a shared experience amongst us, which can change if we give it the attention it deserves.

Before the pandemic hit, the University's North Campus had more food trucks and options nearby. When COVID hit we lost something more than food. We lost student and staff engagement. We've lost the life and energy that Central Campus seems to have so much of. Our engineering community has become more withdrawn and less outgoing. Having a diverse and accessible set of food options can do more than just keep our campus well-fed and healthy. They can transform North Campus into a dynamic place full of life. Other universities and campuses don't seem to share this problem. Shouldn't we ensure our time here is enriching and lively?

We, the students, staff, and foodies at The University of Michigan's North Campus, urge the administration to consider reintroducing and inviting food trucks to North Campus. Bring us back our diverse food options, bring back our culture, and bring back our lively campus quad. Please sign this petition to help us voice our unanimous sentiment.
