Reinstate Firefighter Dugouts at the Erie County Fair
The Issue
The Firefighter Dugouts at the Erie County Fair holds a special place in my heart. It's an event I looked forward to all year, tracing back to my childhood. The joys of this day did not stop at mere spectating, as I later had the honor of assisting with organizing my own department's participation in this beloved event. For decades, Firefighters and Family alike came together and celebrated the bravery of our firefighters, fostering a sense of camaraderie in our community.
Tragically, the absence of the Firefighter dugouts is felt widely, as the event was much more than a day at the Fair. It was an educational tool for the public, offering residents an invaluable insight into the crucial and tireless work of our firefighters. Furthermore, it facilitated a connective bond between Erie County's firefighters and the residents they tirelessly serve and protect.
Statistics show that community events such as the Firefighter Day dugouts can effectively raise public awareness about safety. In 2019, for instance, the National Fire Protection Association reported a 23% increase in public inquiries following local community firefighting and safety events (source: National Fire Protection Association Annual Report, 2019).
We urge those in power - the administrators of our Erie County Fair - to reinstate the Firefighter Dugouts. Let's bring back this vital event that strengthens our community ties, showcases the dedication of our firefighters, and educates Erie County residents on safety and awareness of our public servants. Sign this petition to show your support for the return of Firefighter Day at the Erie County Fair.
