Reinstate Ewa Klobukowska's World Records, Olympics Medals and Issue a Formal Apology
The Issue
Ewa Klobukowska is a former Polish sprinter who completed in the 1964 Olympics. She won multiple gold, silver and bronze medals across the 1964 Olympics and 1966 European Athletics Championships, and set three world records in Relay. At one point she was considered to be the fastest woman in the world. She was not only a remarkable individual performer, but also significantly contributed to her relay team, representing her country on the world stage.
Despite this, in 1967 she was wrongly disqualified, based on a faulty Barr Body detection-based sex verification test indicating she was not female. She was stripped her of her hard-won titles and barred her from the competing. Even once this gross error was corrected, nothing was done to make amends. Ewa's titles and accomplishments have not been reinstated and she has not received any formal apology for having had any recognition of what she achieved, taken away from her.
Recognising that the test was a mistaken method in identifying sex chromosome disorders like Klinefelter Syndrome, which affects about 1 in every 500 to 1,000 newborn males (Source: National Institutes of Health), we are calling for Ewa's world records and Olympic medals to be reinstated. We strongly believe that she deserves a formal apology for the severe personal, professional, and emotional impact this error has caused. It is time she is acknowledged again for what she accomplished in the world of sports. By signing this petition, we can propel justice forward by addressing this historical wrongdoing. Stand with us. Sign this petition. Let's give Ewa Klobukowska the recognition and apology she deserves.
