Reinstate character day for high school students (yr 7-11)
The issue
(IF YOU ARE GOING TO WRITE A COMMENT PLEASE KEEP IT RESPECTFUL)
For as long as I can remember, Character Day has been an eagerly anticipated event at our school—an occasion not only filled with creativity and imagination but also community spirit. Unfortunately, due to the issues of crossdressing, skipping class etc, Character Day has been restricted to only the year 7 cohort, leaving the rest of us in years 9, 10, and 11, as well as the blameless year 8s, without an event. It feels unjust to penalise an entire school over the actions of people who had positive intentions.
Character Day should be an inclusive event where every student, regardless of grade, can participate and celebrate. It acts as a unifying force, fostering bonds across different year levels and enhancing school spirit. These missteps shouldn't outweigh the countless good memories and valuable lessons learned during Character Day, nor should they strip away a beloved tradition from the majority.
Statistics and reports continually show that school activities, such as Character Day, improve student morale and encourage attendance. An article published by the British Educational Research Journal notes that school events play a pivotal role in boosting students' experiences and shaping their educational journeys.
Instead of allowing the actions of a few individuals to dictate the experiences of the many, we propose an alternative solution. Let's work together with teachers and student leaders to find ways to ensure enjoyment without disruption. This could include implementing stricter guidelines or even mentorship programs where older students guide younger ones in maintaining Character Day's positive atmosphere.
We appeal to the school administration, and our Islamic values to reconsider its decision and reinstate Character Day for all high school students. With collaborative effort and understanding, we can bring back this cherished event without compromising on safety or decorum.
Please sign this petition to show your support in bringing back Character Day for everyone in our school. Together, we can restore joy and pride in our annual tradition and ensure that our school remains a place of inclusivity and excitement for all students.
