Reinstate Bike Racing at Floyd Bennett Field

Reinstate Bike Racing at Floyd Bennett Field
The Issue
Since 1999, I have participated in more than 200 races at Floyd Bennett Field in New York City, gaining not only personal achievements but also a profound connection to the local cycling community. The vibrant energy and camaraderie at Floyd Bennett Field have inspired countless cyclists.
Unfortunately, the runways that once echoed with the sounds of joy, community and competitive spirit have fallen silent. The absence of bike racing at Floyd Bennett Field has left a void in the hearts of many cyclists who, like me, consider it a cornerstone of their racing experience. Restoring bike racing at Floyd Bennett would reinvigorate this historic location and provide a safe, controlled environment for cyclists to pursue their passion.
We propose working with local authorities and the National Park Service to develop a sustainable plan to bring back racing to Floyd Bennett Field. This plan would involve risk management strategies, stakeholder collaboration, and promotions to ensure a revitalization of the cycling races that once defined this venue. Bike racing at Floyd not only enhances the cycling cultural heritage of our city but also fosters a thriving community that celebrates athletic accomplishments.
Please sign this petition to urge decision-makers to restore bike racing at Floyd Bennett Field, revitalizing a cherished tradition and committing to the future of New York's cycling community. Please write about the number of seasons you’ve raced at Floyd, and the joy it brings you.
We the undersigned:
1. Confirm the runways are in more than adequate condition to hold races on. There are routinely more dangerous conditions throughout New York City.
2. Are eager to resume racing there again as soon as possible and will be grateful if the National Parks Service grants us permission.
3. Welcome all people to participate in the bicycle races held at Floyd Bennett Field. This is a community event that welcomes everyone.
