Reinstate 374 Bus Service for East Tilbury Community Access

The Issue

We, the concerned residents of East Tilbury, call upon the local authorities to reinstate a much-needed bus service that will enable members of our community to access other areas within the borough. This vital transportation link has been granted to be discontinued from August 2023 , leaving many residents without a reliable means of travel and severely limiting their ability to access essential services and opportunities.

East Tilbury is a close-knit community with its unique blend of residential areas, schools, healthcare facilities, and commercial establishments, it is crucial for our community members to have convenient access to these amenities. The 374 bus service that serves East Tilbury, Linford, Stanford Le Hope, Corringham, Fobbing, Vange, Basildon, Grays, Socketts Heath, Little Thurrock, Palmer's College, Chadwell St Mary and West Tilbury will be removed leaving many individuals facing significant challenges in reaching these essential destinations.

The absence of a reliable public transportation system has particularly affected vulnerable groups such as elderly residents who rely on buses for their daily activities. Many older adults depend on public transport to attend medical appointments or visit friends and family outside of East Tilbury. Without adequate transportation options, they are left isolated and unable to maintain an active social life or receive necessary healthcare services.

Furthermore, students attending schools and colleges outside of East Tilbury are also greatly impacted by this lack of bus service. Many young people rely on public transport for their education journey. The discontinuation not only hampers their educational opportunities but also places an additional burden on families who may struggle with providing alternative means of transportation.

By reinstating a bus service in East Tilbury, we can address these pressing issues and ensure that all members of our community have equal access to essential services within our borough. A reliable public transportation system will improve mobility options for everyone while reducing traffic congestion and carbon emissions associated with private vehicle usage.

We acknowledge that funding constraints have contributed to the discontinuation; however, we firmly believe that investing in the reinstatement of this bus service will yield long-term benefits for our community. We urge the local authorities to explore funding options, seek partnerships with transportation providers, and prioritise the needs of East Tilbury residents when allocating resources.

We, the undersigned residents of East Tilbury, call upon our local authorities to take immediate action and reinstate a bus service that will enable us to access other areas within the borough. Together, let's ensure equal opportunities for all community members and foster a thriving and connected East Tilbury.
